Song Review - Dande and The Lion - Harder to Breathe

Review By: Emerald Violet

Dande and the Lion are a four piece indie-pop band, hailing from the city of Sydney, and if you haven't heard of them before then I’m here to tell you that you are really missing out on an absolute gem of a band.

Known for their great indie-pop sound and crispy tones, the band are no strangers when it comes to gaining love from multiple music publications, and their many local fans. Coming in strong with their second single of the year “Harder To Breathe”, Dande and the Lion prove that they aren’t your average indie band, with their ever flowing melodies, and great songwriting that puts them up there as one of the best upcoming bands in the scene. “Harder To Breathe” is a self-proclaimed banger that will have you absolutely hooked from the start.

Starting off with an incredible indie feel that has you knowing that you’re in for a real treat.

As the perfect and insanely summery vibe kick in  through the intro with the guitars, bass, and drums in full swing of things, creating this sweet melody that sweeps across and takes you with it before the breathtakingly, strong vocals from vocalist Abbey Gardner come in and add that missing element - making it an overall fantastic track. The fast paced drums set the scene for this incredible indie-pop tune as the guitar soars blissfully across the soundscape while the bass plays one of the most important roles and holds the track in place, binding all the elements together.

Slow, steady, and overall infectious is how you would describe the verses in “Harder To Breathe”, while the chorus’ slam into a faster rhythm  that you can really sink your teeth into. The vocals overlay the top of the whole track  and make for something really powerful which is why this band feels unstoppable with their drive and talent for making good music.

“Harder To Breathe” is a truly great release from Dande and the Lion - it is simply a well-written track that brings an enormous summer/indie vibe through the instruments while holding some powerful vocals and lyrics. You will be able to catch the band celebrating this song at their single launch which is on the 23rd of September at Waywards, Sydney.

Don’t forget to stream the insanely addictive new tune and see the band in all their glory at the single launch.
