Song Review - Danny Elfman - Kick Me

Danny Elfman is none other than a musical genius in my eyes and he can honestly do no wrong. The composer has worked on the score for countless films and created some of the most amazing pieces that I always come back to and find myself lost in the wave of brilliance. Back in October 2020, he released a surprise single and has pledged to release a song every month on the 11th - again you gotta respect the creative mind of this man. These tracks have been the first solo tracks he has released in over 30 years.

After first listening to his brand new track “Kick Me”, I expected nothing less than his unique sound. This track is especially short and heavy which is what I love to see. From the start, it definitely grabs your attention with it’s lightning sound and has you hooked in until the end. The composer joked  “I was feeling particularly mellow one day last summer. I decided to write this very chill song for everyone who wants to put something on that will really help them zone out and relax,”

This track is solid from start to finish - it’s combination of heavy drums and loud vocals is enough to capture anyone's attention. Being creative is definitely his strong suit from writing incredible film scores, to fronting an 80’s band, to creating interesting solo tracks. If you haven’t heard it, give it a listen - it’s out there, it’s heavy, and it’s unique.
