Song Review - Sycco - Time’s Up

REVIEW BY BEN LAMB

Phenomenal indie artist Sycco has just dropped her latest track, ‘Time’s Up’ and it’s an absolute banger. She uses her unique brand of dream pop melded with elements of rock, soul and hip-hop to create a truly great track.

Opening up with a some light synths, drums, and Sycco’s vocals, ‘Time’s Up’ eases listeners into the energy and powerful lyrics to come. With lyrics like ‘you don’t wanna F with me,’ we’re transported into her world, she’s singing towards someone who’s caused her a great deal of anger. This leads us into the electronic section of the track, a section subverting any expectations the listener may have had, which is truly what helps it become memorable.

The music video matching with this section perfectly, showing Sycco dressed up in a futuristic outfit, in some form of torture chair. It then gets to the bridge, where all instruments subside, and we’re left with Sycco’s vocals, before slowly building up to an awesome outro delivered with an awesome amount of energy that shows you how much this song means to the artist, as Sycco mentioned in a statement;

‘The song definitely reflects the emotional turbulence and anger I was feeling during lockdown. Making this song was a huge release of all that negative energy.’
